With the rise of the mainstream, the 1990’s saw porn go high-end, with scripts, plots, costumes, full-scale production teams, and porn companies scaled up. It also saw the rise of some of the biggest names in the porn game, from Maddison and Tera Heart to Belladona and Stacy Valentine.
In this article, Adult Business Consulting has compiled our list of the best 90’s female pornstars.
Savannah
Savannah is the first of our roundup of the best 90’s female pornstars. She started her career as a model in photo spreads for Cheri, Hustler, Swank, and Penthouse before signing an exclusive contract with Vivid Entertainment in 1991 and becoming one of the early Vivid Girls. She worked as a pornstar during 1991-1993 before her antics as a diva and drug addiction caused her to lose her contract with Vivid Entertainment, where she went on to freelance with other porn companies and star in b-movies before sadly ending her life in 1994.
Madison
Madison Stone, known as Madison, was an alternative pornstar that made a name for herself in the 1980s and throughout the 90’s. Today, she has 100 hardcore names under her belt, and she is most known for her roles in Dr. Jeckle and Ms. Hide, Heather Hunted, and Evil Toons. Since the 90’s, she has been inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame and was voted the XRCO Favorite Female in 1993. She was known for her striking and punky looks with multiple tattoos and piercings, including what is now known as the Maddison piercing, a body piercing at the front of the neck named after her because she was the first person to be publicly associated with it. When she left the industry, she became a singer and opened a tattoo parlor called Maddison Tattoo Shoppe in North Hollywood.
Tera Heart
Tera Heart is known for her sporadic career throughout the 1990’s, starting her career in 1990 when she starred in 900 Desert Strip. She retired a few years later before returning in 1994 and starring in Western Nights, which won multiple AVN awards. She continued her career for the rest of the 90’s before retiring in 2006 and becoming a dancer. Throughout her career, she worked with the following production companies: VCA, Wicked Pictures, Vivid, Gourmet Video Collection, Filmco Releasing, and Leisure Time Entertainment.
Silvia Saint
In fourth place for best 90’s female pornstars in Silvia Saint, the Czech pornstar has been a massive hit throughout the 90’s, with her first movie being Frank Thiring’s Lee Nover: Search for the Perfect Breasts and has since then stared in over 300 porn films and modeling for Penthouse magazine. Her first movie, The Uranus Experiment II, earned her a nomination for a Nebula Award for her scene of having penetrative sex in freefall, although she did not win. In 2005, she was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at Torino Sex. Since 2007, she moved out of acting, although she still acted in lesbian sex scenes and went on to create her website and act as a producer and director, making movies for her site.
Jenna Jameson
Jenna Jameson is perhaps one of the most prolific pornstars of the 90’s. Starting her career as a ballet dancer, she eventually ended up stripping. She turned to nude modeling before starting her career in porn after a visit to a porn set piqued her interest. She signed with Wicked Pictures after a bidding war for her, and her first movie was the 1994s Up and Cummers 10. After a few films rose to stardom in 1996, she scored an unprecedented triple crown by taking home the XRCO Best New Starlet, the F.O.X.E. Video Vixen, and the AVN Best New Starlet awards.
Briana Banks
The German-American-born actress Briana Banks is next on the list of most popular pornstars of the 1990’s. She started her career late in the 90’s, with her first movie released in 1999 after she turned 21, starring in Decadent Whores 9, and was also in the video game, Virtual Sex with Jenna. She worked with several companies before signing an exclusive contract with Vivid Entertainment in 2001. In 2002, she was the first porn actress to have an action figure made of her likeness and was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2009.
Stacy Valentine
Although she had a short career of only four years (1996-2000), Stacy Valentine is still a well-known name as a famous female pornstar of the 90’s. She originally started as a model in Hustler, but after a shoot in Mexico, she quickly moved to LA and began a career in the adult film industry. As well as an illustrative porn career, in the late 1990’s she was also involved in the documentary Girl Next Door by Christine Fugate, which focused on her life as an adult film star.
Lisa Ann
With over 20 years in the adult industry, Lisa Ann is a well-loved name in the adult film industry. Lisa Ann has done everything from acting to directing, producing, and even having her radio show. She started acting in Flesh for Fantasyand performed throughout the 90’s before retiring in ‘97 due to the AIDs scare. She returned in 2006 and worked on various parody porn, including her iconic role as Sarah Palin in the Hustler series “Who’s Nailin Paylin?”
Brittany Andrews
After meeting Jenna Jameson on a shoot, Brittany Andrews went on to start her career in the adult film industry and quickly rose through the ranks to become one of the most famous faces of the 90’s porn scene. She worked as an exotic dancer, actor, and producer and later became a club DJ before being inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame in 2008. Alongside her impressive work as an actress, she has also done much for the industry as an activist, campaigned for the use of condoms in sex scenes, and was appointed as a member of the Women in Adult (WIM) board of directors in 2003.
Jessica Drake
Texas-born Jessica Drake is our final nominee for today’s round-up of the best 90’s female pornstars. She works as a porn actress and, since 2013, is also a sex educator. She started her career in 1999 when she starred in Pick Up Line 42and was nominated Best New Starlet in 2000 at the AVN awards. From 2000 to 2002, she was contracted by Sin City and started writing during her time there. She has penned multiple screenplays, including Dating 101, Love Always, and Just Between Us.
